Krirk University Strengthens Capacity Building for Thailand’s Legal Professionals through the “Chinese for Lawyers” Programme

As part of its commitment to advancing the rule of law, international legal cooperation, and lifelong professional learning, Krirk University collaborated with the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the Royal Patronage to deliver the first Chinese for Lawyers Programme, a continuing professional education initiative designed to strengthen the competencies of legal practitioners engaged in international and cross-border legal services. The programme was jointly organized by the Faculty of Humanities and the Department of Law, International College, Krirk University, together with the International Affairs Division of the Lawyers Council of Thailand. Conducted over five weeks, the programme provided systematic professional training to practicing lawyers, combining legal Chinese language instruction with practical legal knowledge and cross-cultural communication skills to enhance participants’ ability to respond to the growing demand for international legal services. The curriculum covered a wide range of professional topics, including legal terminology in Chinese, legal communication, contract drafting, documentary evidence, court procedures, international commercial practice, and Chinese business culture. Practical learning methods such as case studies, legal consultation simulations, contract analysis, and mock courtroom exercises enabled participants to apply their knowledge to real-world legal scenarios and improve their competence in handling cross-border legal matters. The programme forms part of Krirk University’s broader strategy to provide continuing education, professional upskilling, and capacity-building opportunities for Thailand’s legal community. By integrating academic expertise with professional practice, the University supports lawyers in strengthening their international legal competencies, cross-cultural communication skills, and understanding of comparative legal systems, enabling them to better serve clients involved in international trade, investment, commercial transactions, dispute resolution, and regional legal cooperation.

The closing ceremony was presided over by the President of the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, with senior executives of the Council participating in the presentation of certificates to programme graduates. The positive response from participants demonstrated the programme’s effectiveness in enhancing professional competencies and meeting the evolving needs of legal practitioners in an increasingly interconnected legal environment. Building on the success of the first programme, Krirk University and the Lawyers Council of Thailand have agreed to expand their long-term collaboration through advanced legal Chinese courses, specialised professional training, international seminars, moot court activities, joint academic research, faculty exchanges, and young lawyer development programmes. These initiatives will establish a sustainable platform for continuing legal education, knowledge exchange, and professional capacity building. Through this initiative, Krirk University contributes to strengthening Thailand’s legal profession by providing lifelong learning opportunities and practical capacity-building programmes that promote international legal cooperation, access to justice, and the development of legal institutions. The programme also supports the University’s mission to foster internationally competent legal professionals capable of addressing the challenges of global governance, cross-border legal services, and sustainable development.
